About a year ago, I reported fruad use on my credit card after I had received a monthly statement on what I never used. Apperently, someone had activated my card without me knowing, then, got the cash advances from ATM many times and also made a few purchases.
After all, the credit card company denied it and clamied that I’m responsible to pay this amount because they feel that since the money was withdrawn from ATM, I’m the only person who should know the pin no. (which of course, I don’t know…I never even activated that card).
Now, after a little over a year passes, I just received a notice from a lawyer that this amount will go into collection and it will ruin my credit history. I just wonder, since it’s been this long, can I still try to report the identity theft? ( I think I know who that person was, who activated my card and fraud used it). I don’t want to have to pay on what I didn’t use.
